Iceland is one of the most fascinating countries in the world, so make sure you start planning your Iceland Schengen visa in good time ahead of your trip – you don’t want anything getting in the way! This tiny country is nestled far North in Europe, and is home to some of the most exotic landscapes and scenery in the world. Iceland is known for its hot springs, volcanoes and amazing blue waters. The Icelandic people are famous for their welcoming and friendly nature, and will gladly show you their country and national specialties.
When planning a trip to Iceland, you have to apply for an Iceland tourist visa in advance if you are not a citizen of one of the Schengen member States, an E.U. Member state, or other Western countries like the USA, Australia, etc. if the stay is shorter than 90 days (make sure you check if you need a tourist visa or not). If you are not a citizen of these countries, chances are you have to apply for an Iceland Schengen visa in advance. It’s very important that you read the list of requirements carefully, as any visa application that does not comply with these requirements, will be automatically rejected. One of the most important Iceland tourist visa requirements is having a valid Schengen visa travel insurance. Any application that fails to show proof of this, will be rejected.
Iceland had 245 tourist accidents in 2015 alone, which isn’t any more or less compared to other countries, but it proves how important it is to have insurance abroad. New cultures, traffic driving patterns, behaviors and landscapes all play a part in increasing risk when traveling. We don’t offer travel insurance for your Iceland Schengen visa directly here at Schengen visa flight reservation, but we have paired up with Visitor’s Coverage; an affordable, but extensive travel insurance company whose plans meet all the Schengen visa requirements. Most travel insurance companies will charge an arm and a leg for trips that are longer than one month, and many fail to meet the requirements that most visa applications have. We are proud to recommend Visitor’s Coverage, and hope our cooperation will help many future travelers obtain their visas, and not least – stay safe!
ICELAND SCHENGEN VISA – WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
When it comes to the requirements for an Iceland tourist visa, it’s pretty straight forward; they are basically the same as for any Schengen tourist visa. However, it’s very important to note that there are slight variations in the Schengen visa requirements, depending on your nationality. Sometimes the Consulate or Embassy will even require additional documentation from you after you have sent it your application. Sometimes it can be smart to be ahead, and send in all the documentation you are able to. We recommend looking at the No Objection Letter For Schengen Visa for this purpose as well. Also make sure you call your local Embassy and double and triple check what the requirements are for you specifically, as articles and lists on the Internet will at best only give you the general requirements.
Another very important requirement to note for the Iceland Schengen Visa – as well as for some nationalities who are not required to have a Schengen visa – is the return flight requirement. There are several stories of people who are denied check-in because they cannot present a valid return flight. The reason for this requirement is not clear, but in short it’s the airline that is responsible if you refuse to leave the country, and as of such have now started to check that all their passengers have return flights. his means that also Americans, Australians and Canadians have to present a return flight reservation. In addition to this, your Iceland Schengen visa application will be rejected on the spot if you don’ submit a valid return flight reservation. Even the home page of Iceland’s national airline, Icelandair, states that: Citizens of other States are subject to personal border control upon arrival in Iceland (identity check, travel documents, including visa or residence permit if needed, return ticket, means of subsistence and reason for travelling). Please have your relevant documentation ready upon arrival to the border control area of the terminal.”
So how do you get one without purchasing the ticket itself?
